Where it came from
Mirage Mirror was originally introduced in the 2017 Magic: The Gathering set Hour of Devastation. The Secret Lair Drop version, bearing collector number 7025, was released as part of a curated series of specialty cards. This reprint was designed to offer players a visually distinct version of the popular utility artifact, which allows its controller to become a copy of any target artifact, creature, enchantment, or land on the battlefield.
The artwork for this specific iteration was commissioned to provide a thematic refresh, leaning into the surreal and ethereal aesthetics often featured in the Secret Lair series. The design process focused on reimagining the artifact's shifting, reflective nature through stylized, modern illustration techniques. Upon release, the card was well-received by collectors who prioritize artistic variety and the inclusion of unique visual treatments within their card libraries.
