Provenance

Where it came from

The Mirari card was originally released as part of the Odyssey expansion in 2001, but the version featured in the 2003 World Championship Decks is a precise reproduction of the deck used by Daniel Zink during his performance at the 2002 Magic: The Gathering World Championship. These decks were produced by Wizards of the Coast as a commemorative product, allowing players to own and play with exact, non-tournament-legal replicas of the top-performing decks from the professional circuit.

The art for the original card was illustrated by Donato Giancola, who conceptualized the Mirari as a mysterious, powerful artifact capable of amplifying magic. Its design reflects the lore of the Otaria setting, where the artifact served as a central plot device. The World Championship printing retains the original artwork and flavor text, serving as a snapshot of the competitive meta-game environment of the early 2000s and honoring the specific card choices made by professional players during that era.
