Mirror Entity

Mirror Entity was released in 2007 as part of the Lorwyn set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It represents the changeling subtype, a mechanical innovation central to the Lorwyn block that allowed creatures to possess every creature type simultaneously. Designed to be a versatile powerhouse, the card was created to synergize with tribal-focused decks by allowing a player to manipulate the power and toughness of their creatures while bestowing them with every beneficial tribal attribute available at the moment of activation.

The card’s illustration was provided by artist Nils Hamm, who leaned into the surreal and fluid nature of the creature’s lore. By depicting the entity as a nebulous, shifting form, Hamm successfully captured the essence of a being that lacks a fixed identity. Upon its debut, the card was well-received by players for its tactical flexibility in tournament settings, where it quickly became a staple for its ability to turn even the most modest board state into a lethal threat.
