Mogg Fanatic

Mogg Fanatic was introduced in the Tempest expansion set for Magic: The Gathering, released by Wizards of the Coast in October 1997. As part of a set focused on the narrative of the Weatherlight Saga, the card represents the Goblin race from the plane of Rath. It was mechanically designed as an efficient utility creature, intended to offer red-aligned players a tactical sacrifice ability that could manage low-toughness threats or provide critical damage reach in the final stages of a game.

The card’s distinct visual identity is defined by the illustration of Kev Walker, a prominent artist whose work became a cornerstone of the game's aesthetic during the late 1990s. Walker’s depiction of the fanatic captures a frantic, volatile energy that aligns with the chaotic nature of the Mogg faction. Upon release, the card was widely received as a staple of competitive play, remaining a fixture in tournament-level red decks for several years due to its versatility and aggressive utility.
