Moss Diamond

Moss Diamond was first introduced in the Mirage expansion in 1996 and was reprinted in the Classic Sixth Edition set in 1999. It belongs to a cycle of artifacts designed to provide players with consistent mana acceleration in their respective colors. By tapping and paying one mana, the player adds one mana of the specific color to their pool, serving as a foundational tool for deck building during a period when Magic: The Gathering was refining its core mechanics for a rapidly growing player base.

The card features an illustration by Dan Frazier, whose work is synonymous with the early visual identity of the game. Frazier’s design for the Diamond cycle focused on an elemental, jewel-like aesthetic that communicated the item's purpose as a magical conduit. During the transition to the Sixth Edition, the card’s frame and layout were updated to align with the modern rules template, ensuring it remained a staple for players navigating the complex strategic landscape of the late nineties.
