Mystic Denial

Mystic Denial was released in 1999 as part of the Portal Three Kingdoms expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set was unique in its thematic focus, drawing heavily from the 14th-century Chinese historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and was originally marketed specifically toward the Asian market to help introduce new players to the game’s mechanics through simplified rules.

The card’s artwork was rendered by Kang Yu, a Chinese artist whose contributions to the set were integral to establishing its distinct visual identity.
