Mystic Monastery

Mystic Monastery was originally introduced as a tri-land in the Khans of Tarkir expansion, representing the Jeskai Way’s home on the plane of Tarkir. The design intent was to provide players with a color-fixing land capable of producing blue, red, or white mana, reflecting the three-color identity of the Jeskai clan. This specific printing comes from the Commander 2016 set, which utilized the card to support the four-color preconstructed decks by providing necessary color access to players navigating complex mana bases.

The artwork was created by Florian de Gesincourt, who sought to capture the monastic and architectural majesty of the Jeskai sect. His illustration emphasizes the dramatic, vertical nature of the monastery nestled high within snowy, jagged mountain peaks, suggesting a place of secluded contemplation and martial training. The piece was well-received for its atmospheric lighting and sense of scale, fitting seamlessly into the established visual language of the Tarkir setting.
