Where it came from
Nahiri's Binding was released as part of the Zendikar Rising Art Series in 2020. This subset of cards was designed specifically to showcase the full-bleed artwork commissioned for the Zendikar Rising set, stripping away the standard gameplay frames and text to highlight the visual narrative. These cards were distributed exclusively in collector boosters, serving as a collectible memento for those who appreciate the aesthetic direction of the Magic: The Gathering multiverse.
The artwork for this piece was illustrated by Magali Villeneuve, a prominent artist in the fantasy gaming space. Villeneuve is known for her dramatic lighting and character-focused compositions, and here she depicts the Kor lithomancer Nahiri in a moment of intense magical focus. The piece was well-received by fans for its technical polish and its clear portrayal of the character's signature control over stone and metal, further solidifying the visual identity of the Zendikar plane.
