Where it came from
Nature's Cloak was released as part of the initial 1999 starter set for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, a phenomenon that introduced the globally popular video game franchise to the tabletop gaming world. Designed to simplify mechanics for new players, the set provided a foundational experience for what would become one of the most successful hobbyist card games in history.
The card features artwork by Keiji Kinebuchi, a foundational illustrator during the game's early years whose style helped define the aesthetic of the Base Set era. His work on this card reflects the clean, minimalist design language that characterized the initial run, prioritizing clear iconography and accessible visuals to help young players learn the game's energy and defensive systems.
