What it does

Whenever you cast a spell, you may put it on the bottom of its owner's library. If you do, reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a nonland card. You may cast that card without paying its mana cost. Then put all revealed cards not cast this way on the bottom of your library in a random order. This ability triggers only once each turn.

Provenance

Where it came from

Neera, Wild Mage was released in the 2022 expansion Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate, a set designed to translate the narrative richness of the Dungeons & Dragons universe into the mechanics of Magic: The Gathering. Neera represents the chaotic, unpredictable nature of wild magic, a signature element of the D&D setting, and was crafted to provide players with a high-variance gameplay experience that rewards resource manipulation.

The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who utilized a dynamic and fluid style to capture Neera in the midst of casting a volatile spell. The design philosophy behind the card centers on the 'chaotic polymorph' effect, allowing players to exchange spells for potentially more powerful ones, a mechanic that has been well-received by players who enjoy high-risk, high-reward strategies in the Commander format.
