Provenance

Where it came from

Nest Invader was originally printed in the 2010 Magic: The Gathering set Rise of the Eldrazi. It was designed as a common green creature intended to support the set's unique mechanics surrounding Eldrazi Spawn tokens, which could be sacrificed for mana. The design team sought to provide early-game stability and mana acceleration for players drafting or building decks focused on the set's massive, high-cost colorless creatures.

The card was later included in 'The List', a rotating selection of cards from Magic's history that appear in Set Boosters. This inclusion allowed newer players to encounter classic utility creatures from the game's past, reinforcing the card's reputation as a functional, reliable piece of green infrastructure. Its illustration by Jesper Ejsing reflects the eerie, alien aesthetic of the Eldrazi, depicting the creature's parasitic nature as it emerges into the world.
