Night Market Guard

Night Market Guard was released in 2018 as part of the Battlebond set, a unique expansion designed specifically for the Two-Headed Giant format. Unlike standard expansions, Battlebond focuses on cooperative play and the thematic setting of the Valor’s Reach arena. The card represents the security forces of the bustling, illicit trade centers often associated with urban planes like Kaladesh, fitting the set's emphasis on gladiator-style combat and spectacle.

The card was illustrated by Johannes Voss, whose work is well-regarded for its atmospheric lighting and character focus. Voss utilized a cinematic approach to convey the imposing nature of the guard, emphasizing the contrast between the shadowy market environment and the character's functional, protective gear. Upon its release, the card was received as a solid, utility-focused common, prized by players for its role in limited play environments where its ability to tap creatures directly impacts the board state.
