Noxious Dragon

The Noxious Dragon was released in 2018 as part of the Battlebond set, a unique expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game designed specifically for the Two-Headed Giant multiplayer format. This set was conceived as a celebration of team-based play, featuring an arena-themed setting called Kylem, where competitors engage in spectacular gladiatorial games. The dragon was designed to thrive in this chaotic, high-interaction environment, utilizing a keyword ability that allows it to penalize opponents whenever they cast spells, fitting the set’s focus on proactive and disruptive gameplay.

The artwork for the card was created by illustrator Svetlin Velinov, a long-time contributor to the game known for his sharp, dynamic creature designs. Velinov chose to emphasize the creature's toxic, decaying nature, using a palette of sickly greens and deep purples to differentiate it from the more traditional fire-breathing dragons in the game. Upon release, the card was received as a solid inclusion for Limited play and casual multiplayer formats, noted for its ability to exert pressure on the board while providing a distinct visual aesthetic that aligned with the set's high-fantasy, performance-oriented lore.
