Where it came from
The Nyx-Fleece Ram was first introduced in the Journey into Nyx expansion in 2014, designed as part of a cycle of cards inspired by the Greek mythology-themed plane of Theros. The creature reflects the set's focus on enchantment-themed mechanics, with its regenerative abilities intended to represent the divine, ethereal nature of the Nyx constellation reflected in its fleece. This specific version from the Masters 25 set features the original artwork by Greg Staples, who rendered the creature with a focus on its celestial glow and mythical stature.
Masters 25 was released in 2018 to commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Magic: The Gathering, functioning as a curated retrospective of cards from the game's long history. The inclusion of the Nyx-Fleece Ram served as a nod to the card's popularity in Limited and Constructed formats during its initial run, where it gained a reputation for being a resilient defensive asset. The design choice aimed to provide players with a functional, aesthetically evocative card that highlighted the visual identity of the Theros block within the celebratory context of the anniversary set.
