Oblation

Oblation was originally printed in the Onslaught expansion of Magic: The Gathering in 2002, designed as a white instant that allows a player to tuck a permanent into its owner's library in exchange for drawing two cards. The version from the Commander 2021 set represents a thematic reprint intended to provide players of the Lorehold Legacies deck with versatile removal options. As part of a supplemental product designed specifically for the multiplayer Commander format, the card serves as a strategic tool for dealing with troublesome threats while balancing the inherent disadvantage of giving an opponent card advantage.

The artwork for this particular printing maintains the clean, functional aesthetic typical of the Commander product line, focusing on the mechanical utility of the card within a social play environment. While the original Onslaught art by Daren Bader captured the thematic essence of a sacrifice or offering, later reprints like the one in Commander 2021 prioritize clarity and readability for players. The card has historically been recognized by the community as a reliable, albeit situational, defensive tool that highlights the unique political dynamics of four-player Magic.
