Where it came from
The Ogre token, bearing the collector number 14, was released in 2024 as part of the expansion set Murders at Karlov Manor. These tokens were designed to serve as auxiliary game pieces for Magic: The Gathering, specifically intended to represent creatures summoned through various card effects within the set’s Commander decks. The design reflects the visual aesthetic of the Ravnica plane, emphasizing the gritty, urbanized, and gothic sensibilities characteristic of the setting’s recent thematic shift toward a murder-mystery narrative.
The illustration for this specific token adheres to the high-fantasy aesthetic established by Wizards of the Coast for their standardized token support. While individual token artists are often credited collectively within the broader set production, these pieces are commissioned to maintain visual consistency with the creature type's long-standing portrayal in the game’s lore. Upon release, it was well-received by players for its utility in gameplay and its adherence to the cohesive art style utilized throughout the Karlov Manor Commander releases.
