Where it came from
Omnath, Locus of All was released in 2023 as part of the March of the Machine expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card represents the climactic convergence of the character Omnath, an elemental manifestation of the plane of Zendikar, after it was corrupted and assimilated by the Phyrexians during their multiversal invasion. Designed as a five-color legendary creature, it reflects the character's progression through previous sets where it steadily gained additional colors and complexity, serving as a mechanical culmination of its narrative arc.
The artwork for this iteration was illustrated by Chris Rahn, who sought to capture the grotesque and formidable nature of a Phyrexian-corrupted elemental. Rahn focused on integrating the signature glowing aesthetics of Omnath with the biomechanical horror typical of the Phyrexians. Upon its debut, the card was widely discussed by players for its unique mana-filtering ability and its utility in Commander formats, where its complex requirements and high-mana value made it a popular choice for multifaceted deck strategies.
