Where it came from
Order of the Mirror // Order of the Alabaster Host was released in the 2023 Magic: The Gathering expansion March of the Machine. The card represents the desperate unity of the inhabitants of New Phyrexia as they defend their home from a multiversal invasion, highlighting the flip-card mechanic used in the set to depict evolving transformations during the conflict.
The card was illustrated by Campbell White and Anna Steinbauer, who utilized the set's double-faced design to tell a narrative of alignment shift. The design emphasizes the visual contrast between the sinister origins of the mirror faction and the eventual reconfiguration into the alabaster host, a stylistic choice intended to mirror the chaotic narrative arcs of the Phyrexians during the storyline.
