Oxidda Daredevil

Oxidda Daredevil was released in 2010 as part of the Scars of Mirrodin set, a landmark Magic: The Gathering expansion that marked the return to the plane of Mirrodin. The set was centered on the conflict between the metallic, artificial world and the corrupting influence of the Phyrexians. As a common red creature, the card was designed to support aggressive strategies in the limited play environment, utilizing the set's signature 'metalcraft' mechanic which rewards players for controlling three or more artifacts.

The card was illustrated by Pete Venters, a prolific artist whose tenure at Wizards of the Coast spans nearly the entire history of the game. Venters was tasked with capturing the essence of the Oxidda chain—a series of volcanic ridges on the plane of Mirrodin—and the frantic, reckless nature of the goblins that inhabit them. His design focuses on the creature's frantic movement and the scorched landscape, successfully conveying the chaotic energy inherent to red-aligned cards in this block.
