Paradise Mantle

Paradise Mantle was first introduced in the 2004 Mirrodin expansion, a set themed around a metallic, artificial world. The card was designed to reflect the set's central mechanical identity, which focused heavily on equipment—artifacts that creatures could wield to gain combat advantages. This specific card allows a creature to tap for any color of mana, essentially transforming any creature into a source of mana production, which proved to be a versatile tool for deck-building during its initial release.

The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Darrell Riche, whose work was a staple of the era. Riche sought to capture the aesthetic of the plane of Mirrodin by integrating organic, flowing shapes with the rigid, mechanical nature of the setting. Upon its release, it became a valued utility piece for players looking to accelerate their mana, and its inclusion in The List—a curated selection of reprints—serves to highlight its enduring utility within the broader history of the game.
