Parapet Thrasher

Parapet Thrasher was released in 2024 as part of the Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander set, an expansion for Magic: The Gathering designed to tie into the fan-favorite plane of Tarkir. The card features the 'Manifest Dread' mechanic, reflecting the set's focus on the survivalist, nomadic, and dragon-fearing cultures that define the plane's high-stakes environment. It was developed by Wizards of the Coast as part of a cycle of cards meant to reward players for manipulating the top of their library and interacting with graveyard synergies.

The art was created by illustrator Billy Christian, who leaned into the aggressive, scavenger aesthetic of the Mardu-aligned forces of the region. The design centers on the creature’s predatory silhouette to convey the feeling of a sudden, lethal strike, consistent with the card's role as an efficient combatant. Upon release, it was recognized by the player base as a utility-focused creature, praised for its ability to provide board pressure while facilitating the deck-thinning strategies essential to the Commander format.
