Where it came from
Perhaps You've Met My Cohort was released as a DCI promo card in 2005. It was distributed to participants of the Magic: The Gathering World Championships and other sanctioned events during that period, serving as a reward for dedicated players in the tournament community. Its creation reflects the era's emphasis on exclusive, mechanically unique cards designed to incentivize event attendance and celebrate the game's competitive culture.
The card was illustrated by Greg Staples, a prominent artist whose work frequently appeared in the game throughout the mid-2000s. His design for this piece leans into the whimsical, gothic aesthetic characteristic of the set's broader themes. Upon release, the card was received with interest by collectors and casual players alike due to its unconventional abilities and the limited nature of its distribution, which solidified its status as a sought-after piece of tournament history.
