Provenance

Where it came from

Pernicious Deed was originally released as a rare enchantment in the 2000 Apocalypse set, designed by Mike Selinker to provide powerful board control in the Jund-colored spectrum of Magic: The Gathering. Its unique ability to destroy permanents based on mana cost made it a staple in competitive formats, particularly in Legacy and Vintage, where its flexibility to act as both a targeted removal spell and a sweeping board wipe earned it a permanent place in control strategies.

The 2006 Judge Gift version features reimagined artwork by Greg Staples, who moved away from the grotesque, visceral aesthetic of the original Kev Walker illustration in favor of a more somber, atmospheric depiction of entropy. Issued exclusively to certified Magic judges as a token of appreciation for their role in officiating tournaments, this printing is highly regarded by collectors for its distinct, painterly style and the prestige associated with its limited distribution among the game's core officiating community.
