Parley — At the beginning of combat on your turn, each player reveals the top card of their library. For each land card revealed this way, you create a 1/1 green and white Citizen creature token. Where it came from
Phabine, Boss's Confidant was released in 2022 as part of the Streets of New Capenna Commander set. The character was designed to embody the art-deco, noir-inspired aesthetic of the Cabaretti faction, a family within the city of New Capenna that functions as both a social club and a criminal enterprise. The card's mechanics, which emphasize group-hug political play through tokens and drawing, were crafted to reflect the lavish and chaotic nature of the Cabaretti's gatherings.
The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who focused on capturing the sophisticated and formidable presence of a high-ranking syndicate member. The design utilizes the vibrant, gilded color palette characteristic of the set, positioning Phabine as an enigmatic figure central to the lore of the plane. It was generally well-received by players who enjoy Commander formats that favor complex board states and incentivized negotiation among opponents.
