Photo Op

Photo Op was released in 2022 as part of the Unfinity expansion for Magic: The Gathering, a set designed to blend the game's traditional mechanics with the whimsical, often meta-textual humor of the 'Un-' series. The card was created as a top-down design meant to simulate the experience of taking a photograph, fitting into the set's carnival-themed space aesthetic. It occupies a unique space in the game, utilizing sticker and attraction mechanics that were experimental additions to the Magic ecosystem during this release cycle.

The artwork for the card was illustrated by David Sladek, who focused on a vibrant, illustrative style that captures the lighthearted nature of the Unfinity set. The design seeks to capture the specific sensation of capturing a moment in a game, echoing the set's emphasis on player interaction and temporary game state modifications. Upon its arrival, the card was noted by players for its playful mechanical interaction, serving as a functional tool for deck thinning and information gathering in games played with Un-set rules.
