Where it came from
Picard, Leading by Example, cataloged as number 29 in the Star Trek CCG, emerged during the mid-1990s as part of the Premiere set produced by Decipher, Inc. This set was designed to capture the expansive lore of the Star Trek universe, following the acquisition of the license to create a customizable card game based on the franchise's deep history. The card was crafted to reflect the leadership style of Captain Jean-Luc Picard, drawing directly from the character's portrayal in Star Trek: The Next Generation.
The design of the card emphasizes Picard’s role as a diplomat and strategist, a recurring theme in the aesthetic choices for the Federation cards in the Premiere set. It was received by players as a staple card for Starfleet-aligned decks, praised for its thematic accuracy and its ability to provide specific mechanical bonuses that mirrored Picard's tactical influence. The art direction maintained the high production standards set by Decipher, utilizing official imagery from Paramount to ensure the card felt like an authentic extension of the television series.
