Where it came from
Pillar of Origins was originally introduced in the 2017 Commander set and was later reprinted as part of the Commander Masters release in 2023. Designed as a utility artifact for tribal-themed decks, the card functions as a mana rock that provides colorless mana specifically for casting spells that share a creature type with the chosen creature type. Its inclusion in Commander Masters reflects its ongoing utility in a format where players frequently build decks around specific creature subtypes.
The card’s illustration is credited to artist Dmitry Burmak. The design aims to evoke a sense of ancient, foundational power, depicting a monolith that resonates with the various creature types central to the game's lore. Within the Magic: The Gathering community, the card is widely regarded as a staple for tribal archetypes, valued primarily for its efficiency in facilitating mana acceleration while ensuring color consistency for decks relying on a singular creature theme.
