Planar Portal

Planar Portal was originally released in the Invasion expansion set in 2000, designed as a rare artifact that allows players to search their library for a card at a significant mana cost. The design reflects the 'Invasion' block's focus on powerful artifacts and multi-colored themes, providing a versatile utility tool for deck-builders who prioritize card selection and strategic consistency. The illustration by Greg Staples depicts a mystical gateway imbued with swirling, ethereal energy, fitting the card's function as a bridge between a player's library and their hand.

The Eighth Edition printing, which includes the collector number 311, marked the card's transition into the Core Set environment. This version was part of a major design shift for Magic: The Gathering, as it introduced the modern card frame with a cleaner, more minimalist aesthetic. While the card is not a staple in the fastest competitive formats, it remains a recognized artifact among long-term players for its unique ability to tutor for any card, often finding a place in casual and Commander formats where high-cost, high-impact spells are more prevalent.
