Where it came from
Planewide Celebration was released in 2019 as part of the Magic: The Gathering set War of the Spark. The card was designed to capture the climax of the multi-year Bolas Arc storyline, depicting the various planeswalkers and factions of the multiverse coming together to defend the plane of Ravnica. Its mechanical design, which allows players to choose any combination of four modes, reflects the chaotic, collaborative energy of the event by offering a versatile toolset that touches on life gain, token creation, counter placement, and card recursion.
The artwork for the card was created by Jason Felix, who was tasked with visualizing a grand moment of triumph and assembly amidst the devastation of the conflict. The illustration features iconic planeswalkers such as Gideon Jura and Chandra Nalaar standing alongside their allies, utilizing a warm, vibrant color palette to distinguish the hopeful moment from the darker, more oppressive visuals found elsewhere in the set. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its thematic resonance and its utility in Commander formats, where its broad modularity provides significant late-game value.
