Where it came from
Ponder, a signature blue sorcery card in Magic: The Gathering, was originally released in the 2007 set Lorwyn. Its utility in card selection and deck manipulation made it a staple across multiple competitive formats, eventually leading to its inclusion in various specialty reprints. The Secret Lair drop version, numbered 2670, was released as part of a curated series intended to showcase unique artistic interpretations of iconic game mechanics.
The artwork for this specific iteration was created by the artist Kelogsloops. Known for a distinctively fluid, dreamlike style, the illustrator sought to visualize the act of 'pondering' through swirling, ethereal currents and emotive character work. This version was received as a stylistic departure from the traditional fantasy aesthetics usually found in the game, appealing to collectors who favor contemporary, expressive art styles over standard high-fantasy motifs.
