Portable Hole

Portable Hole was released in 2021 as part of the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms expansion, a set designed to integrate the lore and mechanics of Dungeons & Dragons into the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem. As a non-creature artifact, the card mechanically replicates the iconic extradimensional storage item from D&D, allowing players to exile smaller permanents from the battlefield. This design was intended to translate the utility of a classic tabletop dungeon-delving tool into a functional, strategic piece of removal for the game’s modern format.

The card’s artwork was rendered by illustrator Igor Kieryluk, who utilized a clean, digital style to emphasize the void-like, shifting nature of the hole’s interior.
