Psychic Venom

Psychic Venom was originally introduced in the Legends set in 1994, designed during a period when Magic: The Gathering was exploring increasingly complex enchantment mechanics. The card functions as a resource-punishing tool, forcing players to pay life whenever the enchanted land is tapped for mana. This design reflected the game's early emphasis on punishing specific deck strategies and adding layers of risk to standard resource management.

The artwork for the Sixth Edition printing features the work of illustrator Dameon Willich, who provided several pieces for the early game. His interpretation of the card leans into the eerie, parasitic aesthetic typical of black-aligned magic cards from the mid-nineties. The Sixth Edition release served to modernize the card's frame and rules text for a growing player base, cementing its place as a staple of the 'Classic' era of the game.
