Rabid Bite

Rabid Bite was printed in the Core Set 2019 expansion for Magic: The Gathering, released in July 2018. The card is a reprint of a functional effect historically known in the game as a 'fight' spell, a mechanics-based design staple in green that allows a creature to deal damage equal to its power to another creature. Its inclusion in this core set was intended to provide new players with a foundational, accessible tool for creature removal that reinforces green's mechanical identity of relying on physical strength and forest-dwelling beasts.

The artwork for this particular printing was illustrated by Steve Prescott, a long-time contributor to the game. Prescott's aesthetic often focuses on visceral, action-oriented compositions, and for this card, he depicts a lupine creature mid-pounce, emphasizing the raw, predatory nature of the spell. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional and reliable utility card for limited formats, praised for its clarity of design and its role in helping players navigate board states where their creatures need to engage directly with opposing threats.
