Rebel Informer

Rebel Informer was released in 1999 as part of the Prophecy expansion for Magic: The Gathering. This set, designed by the Wizards of the Coast research and development team, was notable for its focus on the 'rebel' creature type and the search mechanic, which allowed players to tutor cards directly onto the battlefield. The expansion followed the Urza block and sought to introduce a more distinct tribal synergy that rewarded players for maintaining a consistent creature theme throughout their deck construction.

The card illustration was executed by artist Christopher Rush, one of the original illustrators for the game. His design for the Rebel Informer sought to capture the clandestine nature of the rebellion against the Phyrexian influence within the game's lore. The card was received as a functional utility piece in constructed environments, valued primarily for its ability to tap down opposing creatures while furthering the tribal recruitment strategy essential to the white-aligned rebellion decks of the era.
