Recall

Recall was originally printed in the Alpha set of Magic: The Gathering in 1993, later appearing in the Chronicles expansion in 1995. As a card that allows a player to return cards from their graveyard to their hand, it was designed by Richard Garfield to provide blue mana players with a flexible utility tool. The artwork for the Chronicles printing retains the original illustration by Christopher Rush, a foundational artist for the game whose bold, fantasy-steeped style helped define the visual identity of early Magic cards.

Chronicles was released as a compilation set intended to make older, rare cards more accessible to a growing player base. While the set was met with controversy among long-term collectors at the time due to its impact on card scarcity, it remains a significant piece of the game's history. Recall itself represents a classic era of card design where simple, powerful spells allowed for complex graveyard recursion strategies, a mechanic that has since become a cornerstone of the game's evolving meta.
