What it does
Target creature you control gains protection from the color of your choice until end of turn. Clash with an opponent. If you win, return Redeem the Lost to its owner's hand. (Each clashing player reveals the top card of their library, then puts that card on their choice of the top or bottom. A player wins if their card had a greater mana value.)

Where it came from
Redeem the Lost was released in 2008 as part of the Morningtide expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set focused on the theme of class-based synergy and tribal identity within the Lorwyn block, depicting a world of constant sunlight and folklore-inspired creatures. This specific card represents a common white spell designed to provide defensive utility by granting protection from a chosen color to a target creature, fitting the set's emphasis on tactical, battlefield-oriented interactions.
The card features artwork by Christopher Moeller, a prominent illustrator known for his distinct, painterly style that often captures high-fantasy combat and character moments. Moeller’s work on this piece emphasizes the protective, almost restorative nature of the spell, utilizing soft lighting and iconic imagery that aligns with white mana's role in the game’s color pie. Upon release, the card was generally viewed as a utilitarian inclusion for limited play, valued for its low mana cost and versatility in navigating combat scenarios against specific color threats.
