Where it came from
Regna's Sanction was released in June 2018 as part of the Battlebond set for Magic: The Gathering. This set was specifically designed for the Two-Headed Giant format, emphasizing cooperative play between teammates. The card was crafted to embody the set's focus on synergistic interactions, allowing players to reward their partners while managing the board state through a strategic mass-removal effect.
The card features artwork by Magali Villeneuve, a prominent illustrator in the fantasy gaming community known for her elegant and high-fantasy aesthetic. Villeneuve designed the piece to capture the regal and punitive nature of Regna, a character central to the set's lore as a celestial entity of high standing. Upon its debut, the card was well-received by players for its thematic resonance and utility in multiplayer commander decks, where the balance between a board wipe and team-based upside remains highly valued.
