Relic Barrier

Relic Barrier was released in 2004 as part of the Fifth Dawn set, the final installment of the Mirrodin block for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set was designed to explore the mechanical consequences of the block's artifact-heavy environment, specifically focusing on the intersection of utility artifacts and the game's mana system. As a card that allows a player to tap an artifact to prevent it from untapping, it functioned as a strategic tool for managing board states during a period when artifact-based decks dominated tournament play.

The card's aesthetic was defined by illustrator Dany Orizio, who crafted a cold, mechanical look consistent with the metallic plane of Mirrodin.
