Where it came from
Rem Karolus, Stalwart Slayer was released in 2021 as part of the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt set for Magic: The Gathering. The card represents a human knight dedicated to defending the province of Gavony from the encroaching darkness of the plane’s eternal night. As a legendary creature, the design focuses on aggressive, protective utility, specifically designed to deal damage to both players and creatures simultaneously, reflecting his role as a relentless combatant.
The illustration was created by artist Johannes Voss, who utilized the set's distinct gothic horror aesthetic to portray Rem Karolus in a dynamic, high-contrast pose. The 's' suffix in the collector number 235s denotes that this specific printing is a promotional variant, typically distributed through store play incentives or special event packs to celebrate the release of the set. Upon its debut, the card was received as a solid centerpiece for Boros-colored aggressive decks, praised for its thematic alignment with the set’s focus on light and hope struggling against supernatural dread.
