Provenance

Where it came from

Return of the Wildspeaker was originally released in the 2019 expansion Throne of Eldraine, a set inspired by Arthurian legend and European fairy tales. As a rare instant card in the green color identity, it was designed to capture the flavor of druidic power, allowing players to either draw cards based on their strongest creatures or provide a significant power boost to their board state. The card quickly became a staple in Commander and other casual formats due to its versatility and ability to function as both a late-game card advantage engine and a finisher.

The artwork was commissioned from Chris Rallis, a concept artist and illustrator known for his dynamic lighting and fantasy-themed work for Wizards of the Coast. Rallis chose to focus on the ethereal, nature-infused aesthetic of Eldraine, depicting a druid channeling raw wild magic. The inclusion of this card in 'The List'—a rotating collection of reprints found in Set Boosters—ensured that players continued to have access to this popular card long after the initial print run of Throne of Eldraine concluded.
