Provenance

Where it came from

Returned Centaur was released in 2015 as part of the Magic Origins set, which served as a narrative bridge exploring the backstories of five iconic Planeswalkers. The card fits into the set's graveyard-centric mechanics, representing the flavor of the Theros plane where the Returned are souls who escaped the Underworld but lost their identities, replacing them with gold masks.

The card features artwork by Kev Walker, a prolific illustrator for the game known for his dark and gritty aesthetic. Walker’s depiction captures the tragic essence of a Returned entity, emphasizing the hollow, undead nature of the creature through muted, desolate tones that align with the established visual language of the Theros block.
