Where it came from
Revel in Riches was released as part of the Ixalan set in 2017, specifically appearing as a rare promo card. The card was designed to capitalize on the expansion's central theme of piracy and exploration, mechanically rewarding players for hoarding Treasure tokens to simulate the pirate fantasy of amassing plunder. It serves as an alternate win condition, shifting the focus from traditional combat to resource management.
The artwork for this piece was illustrated by Igor Kieryluk, who utilized a dramatic, high-contrast style to depict the opulence and greed inherent to the card’s effect. The design was received by the player community as a quintessential 'build-around' card, valued primarily for its thematic flavor and the satisfying challenge of triggering its secondary ability during a game of Magic: The Gathering.
