Where it came from
Ribbons of Night was released as part of the Guilds of Ravnica: Dimir Guild Kit in 2018. The set was designed to celebrate the return to the plane of Ravnica, a fan-favorite urban setting defined by its ten distinct guilds. This specific card serves as a thematic centerpiece for the House Dimir, an organization shrouded in secrecy and espionage, capturing the guild's penchant for control, information gathering, and tactical manipulation in gameplay.
The card’s illustration was created by artist Johannes Voss, who sought to embody the eerie, intellectual, and shadow-dwelling nature of the Dimir. His visual direction emphasizes the guild’s signature color palette of blue and black, utilizing fluid, spectral motifs to represent the transition between physical existence and the ethereal world of secrets. Upon release, the card was well-received by players for its versatile mechanical utility and its evocative contribution to the lore of Ravnica’s undercity.
