Provenance

Where it came from

Ride Down was first released in the 2014 Magic: The Gathering set Khans of Tarkir, illustrating the swift and aggressive nature of the Mardu Horde. It was later reprinted in the 2016 set Eldritch Moon as part of a series of cards featuring new art to reflect the corrupted, mutated landscape of Innistrad after the arrival of Emrakul. The card was designed as a combat trick, meant to bridge the gap between aggressive creature utility and removal, emphasizing a mechanical focus on creature-based combat interaction.

The Eldritch Moon illustration for the card was created by artist Igor Kieryluk. His vision for this iteration was to capture the terrifying, body-horror aesthetic synonymous with the Eldritch Moon storyline, moving away from the militaristic feel of the original version to align with the set's themes of transformation and cosmic dread. The card was received by the player base as a niche tactical tool, primarily valued for its efficiency in limited formats where combat interaction is frequent.
