Provenance

Where it came from

The Ridgetop Raptor was released in 2003 as part of the Legions expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Developed by Wizards of the Coast, the Legions set was unique in the game's history for being composed entirely of creature cards, a design decision intended to shift the game's momentum toward high-tempo, combat-focused gameplay.

The card's illustration was crafted by artist Carl Critchlow, whose work is characterized by a distinct, textured style often seen throughout the early 2000s era of the game. Critchlow was tasked with depicting the creature’s aggressive stance within the mountainous aesthetic of the set, helping to establish the visual identity of the red-aligned beast faction during that expansion.
