Where it came from
Rin and Seri, Inseparable was originally released in the Core Set 2021 for Magic: The Gathering, designed to provide players with a unique commander focused on the synergy between Cat and Dog creature types. The card quickly gained a following for its charming art and its ability to reward players for diversifying their battlefield with both animal species, filling a specific niche for tribal-themed deck builders who preferred pets over traditional fantasy monsters.
The Secret Lair version, featuring artwork by Anna Steinbauer, was released as part of a drop series intended to offer stylized, alternate-art collectibles for long-time fans. Steinbauer’s design leans into a vibrant, whimsical aesthetic that highlights the bond between the two characters, moving away from the standard card frames to offer a premium, art-focused presentation that has become a staple of the Secret Lair line.
