Provenance

Where it came from

The Rogue Elephant card included in the 1997 World Championship Decks was part of a limited-run product designed to replicate the exact decks used by finalists during the Magic: The Gathering World Championships. These decks were printed with gold-bordered backs to distinguish them from standard tournament-legal cards and were intended to allow players to experience the high-level strategies and deck-building expertise showcased at the premier professional level.

The Rogue Elephant illustration by Steve White depicts the creature in a visceral, earthy style consistent with the 'Visions' expansion from which the card originated. While the creature was originally balanced for general play as a low-cost, high-power threat that required sacrificing a land, its inclusion in the 1997 World Championship decks cemented its status as a staple for aggressive 'Green Stompy' strategies favored by top competitors of that era.
