Where it came from
Ruinous Intrusion was released in 2021 as part of the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt Commander set, a collection designed to complement the main horror-themed expansion. Within the lore of Magic: The Gathering, the card represents the unsettling encroachment of the eldritch forces that haunt the gothic plane of Innistrad. The design leans into the set's focus on creature-heavy strategies, providing a flexible tool for players to handle artifacts or enchantments while utilizing the plane's signature dark, atmospheric aesthetic.
The artwork, illustrated by Games Workshop veteran and fantasy artist Daarken, captures the grotesque and chaotic nature of the Eldrazi or similarly corrupted entities infiltrating the natural world. By blending high-fantasy tropes with visceral, unsettling creature design, the card aims to evoke the tension inherent in the set’s narrative. Upon its release, it was recognized by the player community as a staple utility piece for green-aligned commander decks, valued for its ability to exile problematic permanents while gaining life for the controller.
