Rumbling Rockslide

Rumbling Rockslide was released in late 2023 as part of the Magic: The Gathering expansion The Lost Caverns of Ixalan. This set returned players to the plane of Ixalan, a world deeply inspired by Mesoamerican cultures, exploration themes, and subterranean adventure. Designed as a common-rarity sorcery, the card functions as a situational removal spell, reflecting the set's mechanical focus on managing board states through high-impact terrestrial events consistent with the cavernous, shifting landscape of the setting.

The artwork was commissioned from illustrator Johann Bodin, who chose to capture the kinetic, overwhelming power of a geological event within the confined space of the underground caverns. Bodin’s design emphasizes the raw, chaotic energy of the rockslide through heavy texturing and dramatic lighting, aiming to convey the physical danger inherent to the exploration of deep, unstable chambers.
