Where it came from
Runechanter's Pike was originally introduced in the Innistrad set in 2011, designed as a rare equipment card that rewards players for filling their graveyard with instants and sorceries. Its thematic roots lie in the gothic horror setting of Innistrad, where it represents a weapon empowered by the residual magical energy of discarded spells, reflecting the set's focus on graveyard-centric mechanics.
The version included in The Brothers' War Retro Artifacts series features the iconic artifact frame reminiscent of 1990s Magic: The Gathering card designs. This reprint was curated to celebrate the game's history during the celebration of its thirtieth anniversary, blending the functional, aggressive design of the original equipment with an aesthetic that evokes a sense of nostalgia for veteran players of the early era.
